The Polson Police Departments policy is to collect and preserve evidence in a fashion that provides for the utmost integrity from the initial collection of the evidence until its final legal purge from the property room. This policy ensures that no one is victimized by lost or mishandled evidence. Due to our department’s commitment to excellence in this field, they make sure that all responding officers are well trained in evidence collection and preservation. On top of the regular training received at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, our detectives and civilian assistant have received hundreds of additional hours of training in the fields of crime scene processing and evidence management. This additional training goes more in-depth in areas such as: Dusting for finger prints Collecting D.N.A. Computer Forensics Crime scene photography (including using alternative light sources, and oblique lighting) Crime scene logistics, Tool mark recovery Crime scene sketching, measuring and documenting Case Law Evidence rules and procedures As a whole, our department is very determined to provide state of the art training and tools to its officers to make sure it can do the best job possible.
