The primary purpose of Bike Patrol is to increase patrol coverage and to provide added safety to citizens in the downtown area, city parks and shopping areas. The opportunity for citizens to approach and speak to officers is greatly enhanced by the bike patrol.
Bike patrol builds relationships with the community through children and citizen contacts. It works in selected areas of the city, special events, playgrounds, and ballparks.
Bike patrol is a very mobile and diverse unit. Due to the stealth like approach and ability to operate in any terrain they are very effective at controlling crimes such as street level alcohol incidents, and deterring disorderly complaints and maintaining the peace and good order of the community.
